Epigastric hernia & Incisional (postoperative) hernia

Epigastric hernia
It is protrusion of contents through Epigastrium or midway b/w the umbilicus and xiphoid process.

Causes:

Intra abdominal malignancy

Clinical features:

Swelling in Epigastrium
If intestine is there in contents gurgling sounds can be audible

Diagnoses:

Clinical examination:

Management:

Moyo’s repair (contents are reduced and excess part is excised then layers are repaired)

Incisional (postoperative) hernia

Definition:

It means when there is protrusion of hernia through an incision.

Predisposing factors:

Abdominal distension, cough infection’s at scar.

Management:

Usually in repair of this hernia prosthetic material is used because failure chances are high.
