Shigella

They are gram negative, rod shaped, facultative anaerobe and non capsulated bacteria.

Habitat:

Contaminated water and food

Mode of transmission:

Orofaecal route

Antigen:

Somatic antigen

Toxins:

·        Shigella dysentrae toxin:

                                This toxin causes bacillary dysentery.

·        Exotoxin

·        Endotoxin

Disease:

·         Shigellosis: An infestation of the digestive system by bacteria of genus shigella
·         Bacillary dysentery
No immunization after infection and no vaccine.
